In today’s video I’m looking at work by community member Linda.
We discuss:
- the importance of value in a landscape,
- atmospheric perspective,
- a strategy to improve your compositions, and
- how to use focal points.
I also offer some tips on using color to create harmony (or add drama) to your art.
I agree that there needs to be more of a value contrast.
It looks a beautiful place. I like to have a foreground, middle ground and background with more detail in the foreground less in the middle and less towards the distance – what you said really.
Was the image done on the computer or in watercolours – its difficult to see the medium on this piece – I like brushstrokes/medium to be more obvious but that’s personal preference
Thanks for sharing Wendy! It’s a watercolor.
I forgot to thank you when this first came out 🙂 Thanks for showing my landscape and answering my question 🙂
You are most welcome Linda! <3 🙂
Linda you have chosen a lovely relaxing viewpoint for your painting. I was thinking about my brushstrokes comment – probably unfair as it is so difficult to see details like that on photos as it is and this was being shared on a screen. I’m a landscape painter myself and listening to this made me look at my own value contrast and brushwork too :).
Thanks 🙂 I did this one in acrylics on mdf in 2016. It’s a place in the mountains behind where I used to live and it’s painted from a photo I took myself (I chose not to include the sheep droppings and camping table :D). You can’t see many brush strokes in the original either. It’s very soft. I did add some more contrast after this video was made and I’ve made some more since.
Oooh it would be nice to see the finished work – and your others – I’ll look to see if I can find you on instagram. I’m not sure if we can look each other up on here.
I use the same username here as on IG and FB (lindaursin)
I love to do landscape and portrait
I’m glad to hear it!
